It’s time to get to know – Dubai based rocker and guitar wizard Jay Wud! We set Jay 10 questions about their musical likes, their guilty pleasures and what music means to them.

How would you describe your taste in music?

My taste in music varies in different genres from americana, folk, blues, funk, rock , alternative, to metal. Every style has its own trip and I feed off it based on that.

Who do you consider to be your favourite band and why?

At the moment it would have to be Gojira. I’ve been a fan since their record “L’enfant savage” came out. They’re original, intense and their riffs are pure brutality.

Who is the best live band you’ve ever seen?

I remember seeing Metallica for the first time at a Sonisphere festival in Turkey back in 2011 maybe. I was blown away! Seeing them perform live for the first time was such a treat!

What is the one song that you could listen to forever?

Thats a tough one but I’d pick any Tom Waits record on any given day.

What album, if any, was a turning point in your ‘musical life’ and why?

Tremonti’s “Cauterize”. I was introduced to this record by my band mate Bojan. The songwriting and riffs on that record are off the charts. Its one of my favorite records  in that genre so to speak.

In 3 words, what makes a good album or song?

Songwriting, performance and production.

A festival or a gig? Why?

Both have their own charm. I love big stages as much as I love small venues. It really depends on the crowd you’re playing for.

Who would be your 3 dream festival headliners?

Gojira, Alter Bridge, Foo Fighters.

Who are the best new band you’ve discovered lately that everyone should know about?

Well not a band but I’ve recently been introduced to Scott Walker by my cousin. I can’t believe it took me this long to listen to his music.

What band or artist is your secret, or not so secret, guilty pleasure?

Not really a secret but defenitly a very unique artist in her own right, FKA Twigs.
