Employed To Serve are the self described ‘nasty hardcore’ band that have been making waves across the music scene. Touring with the likes of Funeral For A Friend and Rolo Tomassi they have got themselves into good company.

Justine Jones let us in to her musical collection and gave us a run down of her top 5 desert island discs!

1. Have A Nice Life –  Deathconsciousness

I got into this album a few years ago and have been listening to it compulsively since. The reason why I love this record is because it’s a great combination of drone, ambient and shoegaze with miserable lyrics. What’s there not to like? I also found the record felt more genuine than other records of it’s genre because it’s a home recorded album (as are all Enemies List releases) and it clicked with me instantly.

2. Deftones –  Around The Fur

This album is perfection from start to finish, I remember always seeing Kerrang and Scuzz play Deftones music videos and just being in awe of how raw and exciting they were. It has a perfect mix of heavy riffs and groove and my teenage angst related to the lyrics.

3. Slipknot –  S/T

I saw this album cover in HMV and was terrified by it. It took me up until I was 14 before I worked up the courage to listen to it – and I’m very glad I did as I have this album to thank for my love of heavy music.

4.  Daughters –  S/T

I really struggled to choose between this record and Botch ‘American Nervoso’, or any other Hydra Head release for that matter. I chose Daughters S/T because it’s so manic and unhinged that it could be the soundtrack of a person going insane.

5. The Notorious B.I.G –  Ready To Die

This is my all time favourite Rap/Hip Hop record, I love the production and B.I.G had a real talent for telling stories through his lyrics which make you feel like you are reliving his experiences.
