July's band of the month is..... Brutus!

Brutus are loud, fierce & in your face and that’s exactly why we love them. Their website describes the first album as having ‘post-rock construction, black metal dynamics, hardcore energy, prog and math-rock flourishes and pure pop melodies’ and it is a combination that is an absolute dream. With vocals that piece through the heavy guitar sounds it’s difficult to not be drawn into their sound & the live performance is equally as enchanting; their 2000 Trees set is something those who didn't attend should regret.

We had a quick chat with the band & got to know them a little better.

Describe yourself in 3 words for people that don't know you:

Stefanie, Stijn, Peter

What band/album made you want to get into music?

Stefanie: I bought three cd’s at once for the first time and that changed everything. 1.Limp Bizkit - Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavoured Water. 2. Jimmy Eat World - Bleed American 3. Rammstein - Mutter

Stijn: NOFX - So Long And Thanks For All The Shoes

Peter: NOFX - Punk in Drublic!

What was the first gig you attended?

Stefanie: Something with my dad. Can’t remember.

Stijn: George Kildy Junior - Thunderbird Cafe Brussels

Peter: Not That Straight and Five Days Off at Café De Living in Aarschot (local hardcore and punkrock show in Belgium).

If you could only listen to one album forever, what would it be?

Stefanie: Fleetwood Mac - Rumours

Stijn: Roy Buchanan - second album

Peter: Propagandhi - Today's Empires, Tomorrow's Ashes

What is the best thing about being in a band?

Stefanie: To observe Stijn in a social environment 🙂

Stijn: being awkward in a social environment and playing guitar

Peter: Playing music!

Brutus head out on a UK tour this October;  take a look at the dates here and do not miss out.
