Arcane Roots have revealed their new single Indigo! The track was premiered on Annie Mac’s Radio 1 show as the Hottest Record! It comes from latest album Melancholia Hymns (September 15, Easy Life).

Frontman Andrew Groves says; “Indigo is the favourite colour of the late Dr Oliver Sacks, a British neurologist & author who died from liver cancer in 2015 at the age of 82. A brilliant mind, infamous for his writing & unique approach towards both his patients & his own neurological disorders, he once hallucinated the colour indigo after self medicating in an attempt to understand his patients own hallucinations better. Shortly before his death, he wrote about his life in great detail along with his intense personal struggles regarding his sexuality, which frequently tinged his illustrious life with great sadness & despair. Dr Sacks’ final notes truly feel like the first intellectualisation of life & his imminent death; the beauty, the regrets, the cherished and the great unknown.

Written with such candor & grace, his final thoughts and feelings really resonated with me, but yet also left me filled with sadness for the way in which he suffered for his work and his sexuality.
Indigo is somewhat of a tribute to Dr Oliver Sacks, Alan Turing and the other great minds of our time who furthered humanity so far, yet suffered so much at the hands of society. We benefitted so much from their brief time on earth, yet gave so very little in return.”
