Swedish Death Candy- Are You Nervous?

London-based Swedish Death Candy feel like a band I should have discovered some time ago. The band make their own brand of fuzz drenched desert rock that is, on paper, certainly within my wheelhouse. The band released a self titled debut back in 2017 which, by their own admission, was very much a live/ jam based record. For their new album, Are You Nervous?, the band took a different approach. Songs were brought in more fully formed and arrangements focused in on. The effort certainly seems to have paid off.

Tides From Nebula – From Voodoo To Zen

This is the fifth full length release from Polish instrumental post rock trio Tides From Nebula. It sees the band delving into cinematic landscapes of swirling synthesizers and hypnotic rhythms.  Instrumental music can be a very tricky thing to pull off, especially one based in such a minimalist sub-genre as post-rock. The ability to keep the listeners attention without a central focal point like a vocalist is challenge enough, without throwing the baby of traditional song structures out with the bath water.

Gender Roles – Prang

In 2018, the month of September, day 28th  approximately 6pm, upstairs at the Paper Dress Vintage in Hackney, Mare street, I witnessed a three piece band from Brighton called Gender Roles, these musicians consist of drummer Jordan Lilford, guitarist/vocalist Tom Bennett and bassist Jared Tomkins who all met/formed in 2015 at Jordan’s Brighton Pride party. In this thirty-minute set, they aided my tinnitus and enabled the love of music. A year later these punk/garage rockers release their debut record PRANG, it’s here in my grasps and is ready for release on August 30th via Big Scary Monsters. Recorded with producer Ian Sadler at Emeline Studios in Kent over ten days.

Junior ‘Beautiful Life’ album review

Junior have spent two years writing 'Beautiful Life', recording it across three studios, with the simple goal of pushing out the boat both with their own sound, and with the messages they can get out in their songs. They work long and then work hard, and it's safe to say that they've proved they're not just another pop punk band.
