Vicki’s Albums of the Year 2023

There were so many albums and EPs released throughout 2023 that we’ve loved here at AltCorner. So we asked our team to let us know what their favourite albums or EPs that were released in 2023. Here writer and photographer Vicki narrows down her top picks!

BOYS LIKE GIRLS – SUNDAY AT FOXWOODS

The baby emo within me was very excited when I was asked to review the new BOYS LIKE GIRLS album SUNDAY AT FOXWOODS. Growing up religiously hearing The Great Escape and Love Drunk, I couldn’t wait to hear what their first album in eleven years had to hold. Like most bands do, they’ve matured!

Goo Goo Dolls @ The Academy, Manchester

Legendary rockers Goo Goo Dolls headed down to Manchester on their latest run of U.K. dates with support from Those Damn Crows.

Justin Courtney Pierre ‘Ghost World’ EP review

Justin Courtney Pierre has been incredibly busy this year. New EP Ghost World is his third of 2021, boasting five new tracks for a hungry audience.

Real Friends – ‘Torn In Two’ [review]

When I first heard of Real Friends I was fresh to pop punk. I liked All Time Low, As It Is, Green Day and My Chemical Romance. I found their first two albums to be too brash and bordering on unlistenable. By the time Composure dropped I’d been to Slam Dunk Festival and, though I still believe their first two records to be poor, that third album really made me fall for them. ‘Stand Steady; is still their best song.

Myles Kennedy – ‘The Ides Of March’

Myles Kennedy seems to have found some miraculous way to straddle his three globetrotting projects: mega-selling Alter Bridge and Slash albums alongside this solo project. Beyond a shadow of a doubt he is the most notable vocalist in rock today, and for good reason. Those vocals combine with his own delectable guitarwork to make solo album number two a welcome addition to his ample discography.

The Spill Canvas – Conduit

The Spill Canvas have made a comeback into what is a very different music world, but new album Conduit sounds like they don’t give a damn.

Silverstein Out Of This World (episode 3: the conclusion) review

Waking up in a field full of alpacas with an acoustic guitar after being kidnapped by aliens and forced to play Discovering The Waterfront front to back – this is where the third and final episode of Silverstein’s Out Of This World virtual concert series kicks off.

Young Culture: Self-Titled album review

With this brand new, self-titled full length, Young Culture have issued one of the most diverse and challenging records I’ve heard from the alt-rock scene in quite some time.

Coast To Coast ‘Sovereign’ EP review

It would be dishonest to say I've been a fan of Coast To Coast, but I have been aware of the band for some time. Having turned down the chance to review their 2018 EP 'The World Doesn't Work', I hadn't given them much of a thought until new EP 'Sovereign' landed in my inbox.

Dashboard Confessional ‘The Best Ones Of The Best Ones’

Dashboard Confessional has returned to the world with a greatest hits package celebrating 20 years of sad-boy music-making prowess.

Bones UK – Unplugged

London Bred, L.A based Bones UK are coming at us with their Unplugged EP of five tracks taken from their self-titled debut album, Bones UK are Rosie Bones and Carmen Vandenburg, the duo have had a Grammy nomination for “Pretty Waste”, they also are releasing a performance film alongside this EP and have toured with Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, Tom Morello, The Struts and Bush and this Unplugged EP was influenced by none other than Nirvana.

Lights – Skin & Earth Acoustic

Following the successful release of her latest album Skin & Earth, Canadian alternative pop sensation lights has reworked some of the tracks into an acoustic EP, complete with three brand new acoustic singles. Being a fan of the artist, I had a listen to see how the songs transcended.

Slam Dunk 2019 Awards – Leeds

We bring you another festival awards from Slam Dunk!

Trade Wind – Certain Freedoms

Trade Wind's anticipated new album Certain Freedoms definitely casts a different view on what some musicians are capable of releasing. With members of Stick To Your Guns and Stray From The Path, it's hard to believe the huge change from a hardcore show of bodies literally being thrown over others, to this peaceful notion.
