ALTERNATIVE MUSIC FESTIVALS - Slam Dunk 2018 Preview: Comeback Kid take on the festival A-Z!

This week we continue our Slam Dunk 2018 festival preview with Comeback Kid taking on our brand new festival A-Z challenge!

A song that made you want to make music?

NOFX: Linoleum

Best rider you’ve had?

Conne Island in Leipzig Germany always does my head in with their amazing meals and artist treatment.

Craziest festival experience?

All four times that we have played Resurrection Festival in Veviero, Spain have been the most bonkers for us. Groezrock in Belgium and Hellfest in France also rule for us.

Dream festival to headline?

Dying to get back to THIS IS HARDCORE again one of these years. We just always seem to fully book up in Europe a year in advance, before we know the dates!

Easiest song you wrote?

ALL IN A YEAR the very first CBK song, I think came incredibly naturally.

Favourite festival moment?

This last year at Resurrection turned my crank pretty hard.

Guest you’d most like to join you on stage during Slam Dunk festival?

I’d like to perform the songs from our last record “Outsider” with the actual guests that are on the record! Devin Townsend or Chris Cresswell from The Flatliners in particular.

Hardest thing about doing the festival circuit?

For me, it’s the heat when the air conditioning stops working. It can get a bit much for a guy like me. I just keep searching for ice and a fan to sit beside.

Interesting fact about one of your members?

The first person I think about here is Jeremy. I’ve never seen someone drive as many hours, and be dedicated as him. We’ve done trips from the east to the west coast and he would drive 90% of a 60 hour trip. I also really admire his veganism and ability to retain knowledge and information.

Jokes you have in the band?

We like to razz each other a lot; usually its stupid nicknames and fake yelling at each other. Some of mine are usually derived from my nickname Goose: Gus, Goont, Les, Lumbering Andy or Big A, to name a few.

Key to surviving a festival?

I’m always searching for those fans with the water spray in them. I heat up baby.

Longest distance you’ve travelled to play a show?

60 hours to start a tour.

Muddiest festival you’ve attended?

Summer Breeze I believe one year. It honestly looked like District 9 in the gen pop area, how muddy everyone was. Luckily most people were smart enough to buy rubber boots. NOT ME.

New band on the Slam Dunk line-up you love?

No new bands I can see that I would say I love. I’ll try to see Jimmy Eat World though.

One dream act you’d like to see alongside you on the Slam Dunk bill?

I met Mike Herrera the last time we played Slam Dunk. He was with Goldfinger. I bought him a drink and sweated him pretty hard as MxPx was one of the first bands I really got into as a young kid. So given the type of fest it is, give me a throwback MxPx set. Or Rancid.

Previous festival performance you’d most like to have watched?

I really enjoyed the Dropkick Murphys at Resurrection last summer.

Question you most dislike being asked?

Anything “favourite” and when I have to draw a memory from blank, I find that a bit difficult.

Reasons why Slam Dunk is so great?

I guess it’s cool for a band like us because we stand out as maybe the only HC band on the bill. It’s fun to be one of the hardest at the festival.

Secret set at a festival you were most surprised by?

The Chemical Brothers at Pukkelpop festival was INSANE.

The festival scene has evolved over the years, what’s the best thing you find about festivals?

The variety of bands I would never be able to see otherwise.

Uncomfiest camping experience?

I haven’t camped in ages.

Worst/weirdest festival experience?

I was arrested and went to jail in Serbia at EXIT festival for a small hash spliff. Undercover cops got me at the reggae tent. I missed The Prodigy that night, so that sucked.

X marks the spot – where would be your perfect location for a festival?

A festival in Brazil, Columbia, or anywhere in SE Asia.

Year you most wished to have been on the bill at Slam Dunk?

This year looks fine to be.

Z- zombies – who is the most drained after a festival?

Me, but it’s nothing that a couple vodka / sodas can’t help with.
