Live Review GENRE ARCHIVES

The Courtesans, Bullet Height & Digital Criminals @ The Moon, Cardiff

Opening the show tonight are Pontypool rockers Digital Criminals. They’re entertaining and show off some of their talent during their short set with frontwoman Emily Bates commanding the floor in front of the stage well. The only downpoint of their set was the length, with all sets having to be cut short due to curfew.

The Movielife @ The Joiners, Southampton

Long Island emo legends The Movielife returned to the stage they last played fifteen years ago this week to kick off a run of UK dates in support of their comeback record Cities in Search of a Heart.   Things kick off with an intense and atmospheric performance from the mysterious Guillotine, this quartet specialise […]

LENMANIA @ The Dome, London

On Saturday November 11th, Jamie Lenman curated and headlined his own all-day festival, appropriately titled LENMANIA. The day saw an eclectic collection of British artists playing across two stages, The Dome and the Boston Music Room in London’s Tufnell Park. We went along to check out everything the afternoon had in store.   “Thanks for […]

Eighteen Visions @ The Underworld London

Counting Days hit the stage hard to a crowd I could count before the opening song rings the last note really generating the setting of a classic DIY Hardcore show where everyone is dotted around the floor area shyly head banging in appreciation while the band do all the hard work in giving 100% of […]

Our Last Night, Holding Absence & New Volume @ O2 Institute Birmingham

Opening up the first date of the UK leg of the Selective Hearing UK tour are South African born, London-based rockers New Volume. This is the trio’s 27th date of the run and it may as well have been their first with the epic performance they gave! While the crowd may have been a bit […]

Employed To Serve @ Rebellion, Manchester

Since the release of their debut album Greyer Than You Remember in 2015, Employed To Serve have risen to the top of the British underground hardcore scene now even at the lofty heights of being featured on Kerrang! covers which, given the nature of the abrasive and aggressive music they produce is no mean feat. […]

Rise Against @ O2 Brixton Academy London

Arriving to a queue that wraps around the building and back to the entrance you expect gig goers want to pick their spot close to the front for the duration of what should be a stellar night, as PEARS (The band, not to be confused with the fruit) kick start the night while the Brixton […]

Fozzy & Hardcore Superstar @ O2 Islington Academy

Here we are at the O2 Islington Academy, kicking things off early at 6.30pm is The Last Band from Gothemburg with an extremely minimal turn out, cracking out some jokes of their place on the bill while ironically being the first band on. A cover of Bulls On Parade makes some friends in the building […]

Otherkin at Camden Assembly

Irish punks, Otherkin, took to London’s Camden Assembly on October 26th for a night of mosh pits after mosh pit, and a whole lot of fun. If you’ve heard of Otherkin at all, you’ve probably heard people rave about their live shows. Frontman Luke Reilly especially does a great job getting the crowd excited, and […]

Placebo live @ Brixton Academy

Placebo fought against illness to celebrate their 20th anniversary on the first of two dates at Brixton Academy. They proved their experience as they took the audience on a journey through some of the best songs of their illustrious career. Opening the show were Husky Loops, the London based alt-rock trio warmed up the expecting […]

Public Service Broadcasting @ Manchester Academy

How did a band that play ambient, soft, instrumental rock music punctuated with 20th century public service messages and film samples end up filling a venue the size of Manchester Academy? There is no logical answer to this, there have not been any hits and there is no obvious mainstream appeal to their music. But […]

As Everything Unfolds @ Crowndale Club

Trauma PR hosted As Everything Unfolds’ single release show on Friday night. The evening was a showcase of up and coming British metal. Opening the night were mathcore two piece Death Goals. The noisy duo showed great energy and a great stage presence considering the size of the crowd. Further to this the songs they […]

The Xcerts @ Scala London

The Xcerts ended their headline tour at Scala in London playing to a room so packed you could barely move. The band opened with their latest single Day Dream, with an electrifying presence, before moving onto some old favourites I Don’t Care and Live Like This. The crowd erupted during the chorus of Crisis In The Slow Lane ‘We all say, we are tired of feeling […]

The Strypes at Brixton Electric

Marking the end of their short but sweet ‘Great Expectation’ tour, The Strypes played at Brixton’s Electric, bringing their punk-fuelled bluesy sound back to London before jetting off to America to play the next leg of the tour. Micheal Jablonka opened the evening, warming up the crowd with his blend of rock and soul. Not […]

The Flatliners @ The Joiners, Southampton

The task of getting the party started on this Friday night goes to introspective indie-punks Shit Present. They make friends with their largely unfamiliar crowd by peeling out a series of songs that drive slowly towards huge, cathartic choruses. Vocalist Iona Cairns warms the crowd with her powerfully vulnerable melodies whilst the punk rock Duracell […]
