Live Review GENRE ARCHIVES

Dream State, Parting Gift and As Sirens Fall @ The Key Club, Leeds

Sometimes you can judge what a show is going to be like by the crowd. Dream State at the Key Club in Leeds was one of those shows.

Set It Off at The Garage (London)

Will went down for a pre-Easter treat as Set It Off took to the Garage in London as part of their UK tour.

Busted with support from The XCERTS and Young Brando @ Motorpoint Arena, Cardiff

Seventeen years on from their inception, Busted are still going strong as they head to Cardiff on the mid-point of the Half Way There tour! Support comes from The XCERTS and Young Brando. There is a mix to the crowd as we wait for doors to open, with teeny-boppers covered in glitter and young adults and mothers reminiscing about the good old days of when Busted first came about.

Normandie, Led By Lanterns and Sun Arcana @ Dingwalls, London

Will Pearce went and saw Normandie at Dingwalls in London, a band he last saw four years ago when they supported the now defunct Yellowcard. Here is what he thought of the show...

Deaf Havana, The LaFontaines and Hot Milk @ The Leadmill, Sheffield

Having only gotten into Deaf Havana after their latest record 'Rituals', but certainly liking what I heard, I jumped at the chance to check out their live show with my friend. With two other, very different bands on the bill as well, I knew it'd be an interesting night.

Mayday Parade with support from The Wonder Years, Movements and Pronoun @ O2 Academy, Bristol

Bristol sees the penultimate night of the UK run of dates headlined by Tallahassee rockers Mayday Parade! Our deputy editor Lizi headed across the border to find out how 13 years have shaped the beloved rock band.

Ithaca – The Language of Injury

If we were to highlight the best record label of 2018, it would comfortably be Holy Roar, who released a string of phenomenal heavy records throughout last year. 2019 looks to be no different, with the release of ITHACA’s debut record The Language Of Injury. A record which is brimming with emotionally charged metallic hardcore. A record that is one of the best British releases during this current renaissance of hardcore.

Enter Shikari, Palaye Royale and Black Peaks live at Manchester Academy

A gloomy Manchester is where we lay our scene, with Enter Shikari drawing to the end of a mammoth UK tour that began back at the beginning of December. (Photo: Dani Willgress)

Mastodon and Kvelertak Live Review at Leeds 02 Academy

If you asked anybody about the best metal bands to emerge this side of the millennium, chances are Mastodon would be one of the first bands out of their mouth. And with good reason. In the 19 years since the release of their debut full length, Remission, the Atlanta four-piece have gone on to release critically acclaimed records, top album of the year lists and even win a Grammy. Tonight they take on Leeds, in thoroughly miserable weather it must be said.

The Faim, Chapel & Halflives live @ The Exchange, Bristol

On day two of joining Australian pop rock sweethearts The Faim on their headline tour, we head to an absolutely packed The Exchange in Bristol for a sweat box of a show!

Live Review: Pagan @ Satan’s Hollow, Manchester

"The technical proficiency on display from the band members is also incredible, from the drumming to the excellent guitar work of both four and six string varieties. The set is of course made up solely of songs from the outstanding debut album Black Wash, and they come across just as well if not better in the live environment".

Less Than Jake, Reel Big Fish, Zebrahead, Suburban Legends @ O2 Forum London

Halloween in Kentish Town, as the doors open at 6.30pm with Pacman and the ghosts, zombie mario and other fancy dress attendees enter the building, we kick things off at 6.55pm with a far from filled room for a sold out show as Disney World regulars Suburban Legends take the stage with their infectious smiles […]

Hawthorne Heights and support @ Clwb Ifor Bach, Cardiff

Emo legends Hawthorne Heights return to the UK on their latest tour, with support from Mark Rose and SHVPES. Opening is former Spitalfields‘ frontman Mark Rose, who introduces himself and kicks things off with the first song he learnt on guitar; Enter Sandman by Metallica. It’s a mellow version of the classic song but it works well. His set is filled […]

The Black Queen live @ Bush Hall

[Photo: William Pavli] The Black Queen put on a captivating show at Bush Hall. Despite touring their most recent record Infinite Games, they favoured their debut, Fever Daydream. While both records are equally as magnificent, it seems odd that the older record was favoured in such a way. Perhaps this was due to Fever Daydream […]

The Amity Affliction and support @ SWX, Bristol

[Photo: Dani Willgress] Walking into SWX, the grungey tones of openers Endless Heights are already entrancing the crowd who made it in prior to their performance. The best way I can describe the Australians is a collaboration between Soundgarden and The Darnkess‘ Justin Hawkins. South Wales’ DREAM STATE are up next and provide the first pits and crowd surfers […]
